What you need to know about DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a network protocol that automatically assigns IP addresses and other network parameters to connected devices, such as computers, printers, or smartphones. It simplifies network management by eliminating the need to manually configure each device. When a device connects to a network, the DHCP server assigns it a unique IP address, along with other essential information, such as the subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS servers. These addresses can be assigned for a specific period (lease) and are automatically renewed if necessary. DHCP is widely used in home networks, professional environments, and data centers to ensure quick, flexible network configuration without IP address conflicts. It is integrated into routers and servers, and plays a key role in managing modern network infrastructures.
