Job title: Data Engineer Location: London (Hybrid) Contract Length: 12 Months Service: Hybrid Cloud & Data Service Area: Big Data Services Day rate: £511.50 IR35: Inside Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a leading Hybrid Cloud & Data team, supporting large-scale data transformation and migration initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining DataStage pipelines, ensuring the efficient extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from source systems into target data models. Working within a collaborative delivery environment, you will play a key role in data integration, migration, testing, and deployment activities while engaging with stakeholders across technical and business teams. Key Responsibilities * Design, develop, and maintain DataStage ETL pipelines. * Build robust data integration solutions to support business and project requirements. * Transform, cleanse, and migrate data between complex source and target systems. * Apply MOSAIC or equivalent data migration methodologies to ensure successful project delivery. * Develop and maintain XML and XSLT components for data transformation activities. * Collaborate with architects, analysts, developers, and business stakeholders to define data requirements and solutions. * Utilise Jira for project management, sprint planning, issue tracking, and workflow management. * Perform unit testing, system testing, and defect resolution activities. * Execute and monitor DataStage jobs, ensuring high levels of performance, reliability, and data quality. * Support production releases and provide troubleshooting for data-related issues. * Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices within the data engineering function. Required Skills & Experience * Strong commercial experience with DataStage Designer and ETL development. * Proven experience designing and maintaining complex DataStage pipelines. * Knowledge of MOSAIC, Data Migration Methodologies, or equivalent data migration frameworks. * Strong experience with XML and XSLT for data transformation and integration. * Practical experience using Jira for project and issue management. * Ability to test solutions, validate data quality, and execute DataStage jobs. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. * Experience working within Agile delivery environments. * Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and learning. Desirable Skills * Experience delivering large-scale data migration programmes. * Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures. * Experience within enterprise-scale transformation programmes. * Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and data lineage principles. The successful candidate will work within a technical engineering environment, helping to design, build and maintain scalable data solutions and services. The role requires strong hands-on development experience, particularly across Java, Kafka, Kubernetes and Python. Key Responsibilities * Design, develop and maintain scalable data engineering solutions and services. * Develop robust applications and data-processing components using Java. * Build and support event-driven and streaming solutions using Apache Kafka. * Develop and maintain Python-based data processing, automation and integration solutions. * Deploy and support applications and services within Kubernetes environments. * Work with large and complex datasets across distributed systems. * Develop reliable and maintainable data pipelines and integration services. * Support the integration of data across applications, platforms and services. * Troubleshoot technical issues across data pipelines, applications and infrastructure. * Work closely with software engineers, architects, DevOps teams and other technical stakeholders. * Contribute to technical design discussions and engineering best practices. * Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, resilient and suitable for production environments. * Support testing, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement of engineering solutions. * Produce and maintain appropriate technical documentation. Essential Skills & Experience * Candidates should have strong commercial experience across the following: * Java - strong hands-on development experience. * Apache Kafka - experience developing or supporting Kafka-based messaging, streaming or event-driven solutions. * Kubernetes - experience deploying, managing or supporting containerised applications. * Python - experience developing scripts, applications, APIs or data-processing solutions. * Strong understanding of software and data engineering principles. * Experience working with distributed systems and data integration. * Experience developing reliable, scalable production solutions. * Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. * Experience working within Agile or collaborative engineering environments. * Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Desirable Experience * Experience in any of the following would be beneficial: * Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP. * Docker and containerised environments. * CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment. * REST APIs and microservices. * SQL and relational or NoSQL databases. * Data streaming and real-time processing. * Infrastructure-as-Code or DevOps tooling. * Working within large-scale enterprise or public-sector technology programmes.
