The data director, or chief data officer (CDO) is in charge of the digital strategy regarding data. Their role is to gather available data to extract the most relevant information to successfully carry out their strategy from an operational and organizational standpoint of the company. They ensure the reliability of data collected both internally and externally and their consistency with each other. To successfully implement their strategy, the data director (CDO) follows a specific methodology and must remain as clear-sighted as possible to exploit data in a clear and objective manner. Specifically, data is put into algorithms, graphics, in order to communicate this data to other departments of the company that need it. The data director (CDO) is also the IT reference point from a data perspective since they communicate with all company stakeholders. They generally work closely with the financial controller, IT director (CIO), operational activities managers and support functions, thus remaining at the heart of matters. They also work with data scientists and Web analysts since they share data in common. To successfully carry out their missions while understanding the professions they work with, the data director (CDO) must have excellent listening, teaching, and communication skills. It's a profession highly sought after by current companies. The data director (CDO) profession can be practiced in an IT department or as a Freelancer.
