The Opportunity

The Parliamentary Digital Service are looking for Cyber Security Advisor to work across key Directorates to ensure that Parliament remains secure in the services that we create, manage and provide to our wide range of customers.

As a Cyber and Information Security Advisor you will be there to advise and support bespoke software development in their work, shifting security expertise into the early stages of delivery and supporting throughout the delivery lifecycle as needed. This will cover areas such as: code review, architectural and design advice for engineering and delivery platforms, and ensuring that security is a fundamental part of the development process, rather than an afterthought. You will help teams shift left on security, organise training and demonstrations on best practice, coach and mentor teams and individuals, as well as help set standards and build documentation for teams to guide them. You will work closely with both the Cyber and Information Security directorate, and bespoke software teams, helping to organise penetration testing and other security critical tests of applications.

What You Need

  • Cyber and Information Security Knowledge: Understanding of cyber and information security principles and how they underpin all digital activities, including an appreciation of cyber and information security functions / activities and how they mitigate likelihood and impact of cyber attacks, especially in a DevSecOps environment.

  • Software Development Technical Experience: Demonstratable experience across C#, .NET, .NET Core and .NET Framework, web frameworks including MVC and Web API, SQL / SQL Server experience in best practice of securing both web applications and APIs, experience of configuring monitoring and proactive alerting tools based on security events, Git, abstracting code into core libraries and creating reusable components, debugging and systems analysis, knowledge of common vulnerabilities and threats. Experience of configuring CI/CD tooling and security best practice.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to establish positive working relationships and influence and persuade at all levels.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.

  • Problem-solving: Takes ownership of problems and proactively resolves technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements. Takes full accountability for actions taken and decisions made.

  • The ability to pass security clearance, backed by the right to work in the UK

About The Team

Protect the UK's democratic process working as part of Parliament's Cyber and Information Security team. The Cyber and Information Security threat to Parliament is a challenging one to meet, balancing security and transparency whilst protecting some very high-profile targets. The Cyber and Information Security team must remain switched on to geopolitical and domestic activity to protect its people, data and technology.
