About the role Our Technology Operations team is the first line of support for Starling Bank, both internally for our colleagues and externally for our technology partners. We look after all the technical queries in our primarily Apple Mac estate that our employees and external partners raise on a daily basis, supporting the critical infrastructure of the bank, alongside the day to day needs of our teams. In this role, you'll get the opportunity to really understand the core functionality of the bank, working closely with our internal teams and key suppliers. It's very important to us at Starling Bank that staff have the best possible experience with the technology they use on a daily basis. Facilitate onboarding training for new employees: ensuring staff have access to the equipment, software and services they need to work efficiently. Design solutions aligned with MoD design and security policies, gaining approvals through the DBS Technical Design Authority governance forum. Ensure new business capabilities integrate cleanly with existing services, considering service, applications, data, and technology layers, while ensuring compliance with policies and strategies. Support governance, processes, and tooling development to monitor and manage new business design, delivery, and usage across the DBS enterprise. Engage with MOD, industry, and government leaders and experts to implement best architecture practices and meet business needs. Ensure architectures comply with DBS technical principles and contribute to achieving the DBS Digital, Data, and Technology Strategy aims. Identify and implement upgrade and patching requirements for applications and systems, ensuring relevant service monitoring is in place. Oversee incident investigation and analysis to resolve issues, improve services, and identify deeper problems needing resolution. Support proofs of concept for new technologies and services, and advocate for Automation Garage offerings to expand its customer base. Fulfil the role of technical architect at GDS assessments, demonstrating compliance with the GDS Service Standard to senior stakeholders. Solve complex technical problems across internal and external platforms, ensuring technical assurance aligns with Government Technology Strategy, GDS Design Manual, and MOD standards. Advise on test strategies, including Pen Testing, Performance Testing, and Accessibility Audits, and manage migration activities for controlled go-live. Look for opportunities to collaborate, reuse components, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Defining how to build and operate user-centred, open source web systems in an agile environment, to serve a variety of citizen and government needs. Being responsible for the technical design and development of your service(s), including how they interact with their surroundings, and how they evolve over time. Challenging entrenched practices and influencing decision-makers, looking for deeper underlying problems to solve, and larger opportunities for digital transformation. Communicating the vision for government services to developers and non-developers alike, working in multi-disciplinary teams that bring policy and delivery together. Playing an active role in the DfE architecture community, where you will share knowledge of tools and techniques, as well as joining related communities of practice and events where appropriate, such as product, user research, design, platforms, security, etc. Helping to build a diverse, inclusive culture across the architecture community.
