The Lead DevOps Engineer role can be divided into three distinct responsibilities: provide hands-on technical leadership and guidance through coaching and mentoring lead the sharing of knowledge and good practice act as a technical product owner, developing medium to long term strategies for product lines Managing: Line management duties for DevOps engineers. A lead DevOps engineer leads one or a small number of related project teams and contributes to the development of the strategic direction. Main duties consist of but are not limited to: Work in one or many cross-functional teams to lead DevOps expertise and decision making across the whole software delivery lifecycle Produce and assure DevOps technical designs based on business needs and providing justification for decision-making in chosen technical design. Providing deep DevOps technical expertise and DevOps technical leadership to project delivery teams, identifying and selecting appropriate DevOps technical solutions based on user needs and business requirements Play an integral part in the DevOps Community of Practice sharing expertise to build the overall capability of the team Analyse the impact of DevOps technical choices on business processes Enable the reuse of patterns, tools, and components across the DevOps profession Provides DevOps technical leadership, guidance, and support for the broader DevOps community. Assure that DevOps technical solutions follow all agreed processes and best practises, particularly around security and governance Mentor one or more DevOps Engineers supporting them in their professional development as well as using your expertise to guide them in key and critical decision making. Main duties consist of but are not limited to: Facilitate Agile Ceremonies : stand-ups, planning, retrospectives, and reviews to maintain momentum and foster continuous improvement. Team Planning & Prioritisation : Support the team in estimating, tracking, and delivering priorities, ensuring alignment with business goals. Stakeholder Collaboration : Work closely with the Product Manager and technical stakeholders to understand priorities and dependencies. Workflow : Oversee the daily flow of work items, ensuring progression from backlog to delivery, using flow metrics where appropriate to enhance predictability and efficiency. Reporting & Insights : Track and report against key milestones and forecasts, providing clear visibility on team progress. Programme-Level Engagement : Represent the team in programme-level sessions, articulating updates, risks, and dependencies. Risk & Issue Management : Identify and address risks promptly, ensuring mitigation plans are in place. Incident Response : Act as a key escalation point during live incidents, helping to coordinate resolution and communication. Removing Blockers : Proactively address obstacles that hinder team performance and ensure a clear pathway for delivery. Continuous Improvement : Drive team maturity in agile delivery practices, fostering a culture of learning and adaptation. Cross-Team Dependencies : Understand and manage dependencies with other teams and workstreams across the programme. Ensure smooth integration and alignment of delivery plans.

Our ITSM Practice Analyst roles work within a small, multi-skilled team that operates a wide range of ITSM practices / functions across a particular area (‘tower’) of DVLA’s services – namely Drivers, Vehicles or Core. This team manages the ITSM practice activities of all ITS (DVLA’s IT department) service and support functions relevant to the tower, defining and ensuring performance against OLAs for these activities, underpinning wider IT Service Management’s ability to deliver services in accordance with agreed SLAs and experience factors aligned to business and customer needs. Required to possess a good level of industry best practice knowledge / experience in ITSM practices / functions, the ITSM Practice Analyst is responsible for performing many of the process tasks and activities which underpin the overall operation of the practices for the service tower. In doing so, they engage with a vast range of product-based DevOps engineering squads and Agile delivery teams, as well as other Service Management and Business stakeholders, making this role a fantastic opportunity to interact with colleagues across the entire IT eco-system. Continual service improvement (CSI) and business analysis: Show an awareness of developing process efficiency and common ways in which processes are optimised, supporting continual improvement activities of the practices. Ownership and initiative: Take ownership and adopt a pro-active mindset in your approach to all practice work, ensuring that the underpinning process tasks and activities are ultimately adding value. This is mostly SQL knowledge but some familiarity with Python on Databricks will be beneficial. SSIS and SSAS are on premise, and Databricks is a cloud solution on Azure. The client will handle the difficult elements on moving the data from on-premise to the cloud, so you will be working with data already in the cloud storage and already available in Databricks, replicating the SSIS packages.
