About the role

Horsham District Council is looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Engineer to join its Customer and Digital Services team, supporting the technology requirements across the Council providing a technical, professional and customer focused service. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in advanced technical support and infrastructure management, who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys solving complex IT challenges. You'll be a key player in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our IT systems, while supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.

The team are office based, however hybrid working is available.

As a Senior Engineer you will provide expert 3rd line support, taking ownership of technical issues and service requests to deliver timely and effective resolutions. You'll maintain our virtual infrastructure, overseeing patching, backups, and system upgrades, while monitoring and managing endpoint and server protection using tools such as Microsoft Defender to ensure systems are secure. A key aspect of the role involves supporting email security and deliverability, leveraging platforms like Mimecast to ensure robust protection and reliable communication across the organization.

You'll work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to manage installations, technical upgrades, and changes to systems and services, offering expert advice and guidance throughout. Your responsibilities will also include supporting corporate IT services, with a strong focus on security and Microsoft technologies—including SharePoint and OneDrive. You'll work alongside other IT colleagues, sharing knowledge and providing professional support to enhance team capability and service delivery.

About you:

To succeed as a Senior Engineer, you will have proven experience in a 3rd line support role. You should be confident working with virtualization technologies (such as VMware), Windows Server environments and cloud platforms like Azure. A solid understanding of networking fundamentals, backup software, endpoint protection, and Microsoft services is essential. Experience with Microsoft Defender, Mimecast, and email deliverability is highly desirable along with experience with SharePoint and OneDrive configuration and administration.

We're looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, communicates clearly, and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.
