Mission freelance Senior Software Developer

The Role
As a Senior Software Developer, you will develop and maintain software products and contribute to their design within a multi functional Agile delivery team. You will be responsible for the operational stability of the products you build and will help improve their ongoing robustness and resilience.
This role expects full stack capability. You will be proficient in backend technologies and databases while also being able to build front end user interfaces (UIs), translating designs into implementations that consider user experience, performance, and security.
You will work with modern cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure), containerised platforms, APIs, and microservice architectures, and you will support delivery through automated testing and CI/CD practices

Your responsibilities:

* Develop and maintain software products for digital services and contribute to solution design
* Build backend services using Java (8+), NodeJS, and Spring Boot
* Build and maintain front end components and UIs, translating designs into practical implementations while considering performance and security
* Work with cloud-based environments such as AWS and Azure
* Develop against APIs, RESTful services, and microservice architectures
* Use containerisation tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
* Build and maintain a robust automated test suite to support continuous integration
* Follow code quality standards (e.g., unit test coverage expectations) and contribute to consistent engineering practices
* Work within Agile ceremonies, break down requirements into delivery items, estimate effort, and collaborate closely with BA/DevOps/QA
* Deliver accessible experiences ensuring WCAG 2.2 AAA compliance expectations are met where applicable


Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

* Full-stack software development capability (backend, databases, and front-end user interfaces)
* Recent hands-on experience with Java (8+), Node.js, and Spring Boot
* Experience developing in cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure)
* Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases such as Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, and Oracle
* Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
* Ability to build automated test suites to support CI/CD
* Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services, and microservice architectures
* Awareness of accessibility expectations, including WCAG 2.2 AAA where required
* Strong Agile delivery experience and collaborative working in multi-disciplinary teams


Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:
* Experience with event driven architectures (e.g. Kafka)
* Exposure to ETL processes or integration with external systems
* Familiarity with code quality tools such as SonarQube
* Experience developing accessible digital services
* Exposure to cloud-native services (e.g., serverless patterns) and integration workflows (including ETL/RPA interactions where relevant)
* Exposure to AI/ML-enabled development, including LLMs, context and guardrails-style validation/testing, and model deployment/maintenance concepts

* Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment
