Mission freelance Senior Data Architect

At a high level, this includes tasks such as:
* Designing and governing data architecture and data models
* Ensuring data is consistent, well managed, and fit for purpose
* Providing architectural guidance to delivery teams
* Aligning data solutions with wider technical and organisational standards
As a Senior Data Architect, you will be responsible for defining and maintaining data architecture that supports modern digital services. You will work across delivery teams to ensure data is designed, structured, stored, and consumed in a consistent and effective manner.
You will collaborate closely with Technical Architects, Software Developers, and Analysts to ensure systems are designed in line with agreed data architecture principles. The role balances strategic oversight with hands on guidance, helping teams design scalable, secure, and maintainable data solutions.
You will also support data governance activities, including metadata management and data dictionaries, ensuring alignment with organisational data strategy and standards.


Your responsibilities:
* Design and maintain enterprise and solution level data architectures
* Define and govern data models, schemas, and metadata structures
* Provide oversight and guidance to teams producing data artefacts
* Support the creation and management of data dictionaries
* Ensure data solutions align with organisational standards and architecture principles
* Work with Technical Architects to ensure systems are designed in accordance with data architecture
* Advise on data storage, access, and integration patterns
* Support data quality, consistency, and integrity across services
* Communicate data architecture decisions clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders
* Contribute to continuous improvement of data architecture practices and standards



Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
* Strong experience in data architecture and data design
* Ability to design and maintain data models and metadata systems
* Experience supporting data standards and data dictionaries
* Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g. Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, Oracle)
* Experience working with cloud based data platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
* Understanding of data integration and data lifecycle management
* Ability to collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and delivery teams
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills
* Clear communication and documentation skills
* Experience working in Agile delivery environments


Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:
* Exposure to analytical and reporting platforms (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
* Experience with data governance or data quality frameworks
* Familiarity with event driven or integration led architectures
* Ability to work effectively in a hybrid working environment
