Principal Engineer - DevOps - Remote Working

Must have an Active SC Clearance

- Lead engineering strategy and technical roadmaps across multiple engineering teams and suppliers, while remaining closely involved in technical and operational decision-making.
- Provide leadership across AWS cloud infrastructure, DevOps, applications and 24/7 operational services.

Principal Engineer Responsibilities

- Define engineering strategy, technical roadmaps, standards and governance across multiple teams.
- Provide technical assurance across cloud infrastructure, applications, ingest pipelines and AI capabilities.
- Lead the design, implementation and operation of AWS-hosted platforms and services.
- Review and approve solution designs, implementation approaches and significant technical changes.
- Coordinate engineering delivery across platform, development and operational support teams.
- Lead technical decision-making during major incidents, service disruptions and critical operational events.
- Maintain oversight of platform reliability, security, resilience and service performance.
- Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies and delivery constraints.
- Mentor and develop engineers across all grades and manage up to 6-8 direct reports where required.
- Work with Product Managers, Delivery Managers, architects, suppliers and senior stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement, modernisation and engineering capability.
- Participate in 24/7 L3 on-call support where required.

Principal Engineer Skills and Experience

Mandatory

- Strong AWS cloud platform and enterprise cloud architecture experience.
- Excellent DevOps experience
- Must have .net and c# as a minimum

Desirables

- Strong Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, Docker and NGINX experience.
- PostgreSQL experience across EC2 and RDS.
- Strong Linux and Windows administration experience.
- Experience with AWS Transit Gateway, API Gateway, Virtual Desktop, VPN and OpenVPN.
- Elastic, Kibana and GitLab Source Control experience.
- Strong Jenkins, Groovy and CI/CD pipeline design and implementation experience.
- Strong platform observability, monitoring, performance management and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience supporting secure, business-critical services within 24/7 production environments.
- Strong Incident, Change and Problem Management experience, including ServiceNow.
- Proven technical leadership, engineering governance, assurance and risk-management experience.
- Experience operating within Agile and DevOps delivery models.
- C#, .NET, Entity Framework, JavaScript, React, Vue.js, WPF, REST APIs and Microservices experience would be advantageous.
- AWS SageMaker, LLM integrations, AI-assisted analytics or Python data tooling experience would be beneficial.
- Secure-by-design, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity experience would be advantageous.
- Experience supporting COTS or analytical platforms within government, policing, national security or highly regulated environments would be beneficial.
