Security Engineer Responsibilities

- Configure and harden Linux and Windows operating systems, containers, networks and cloud infrastructure.
- Implement security controls in line with approved security baselines.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and analyse security scanning results.
- Work with development teams to remediate vulnerabilities and security weaknesses.
- Maintain security tooling integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
- Support automated security testing and compliance checks.
- Investigate security alerts, analyse logs and support threat hunting activities.
- Monitor infrastructure and applications for potential security threats.
- Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to improve security throughout the development lifecycle.
- Maintain technical documentation and support security compliance requirements.

Security Engineer Skills and Experience

- Proven hands-on experience in infrastructure security, system hardening and vulnerability management.
- Strong Linux and Windows security hardening experience.
- Knowledge of firewalls, network segmentation and infrastructure security controls.
- Experience with security scanning tools such as Trivy, SonarQube or Nessus.
- Familiarity with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
- Understanding of Docker, Kubernetes and container security.
- Experience securing cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong security monitoring, log analysis and incident troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of secure development practices and automated security testing.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
- Cybersecurity or IT NVQ Level 4, STEM degree or equivalent technical education.
- CompTIA Security+, CySA+, SSCP or equivalent cybersecurity certification.
- AWS/Azure security or Tenable Nessus accreditation would be advantageous.
- CISSP or CISM certification, or progress towards either qualification, would be beneficial.
