The Software Developer will sit within the WRA's Developer team and will be assigned to a multi-disciplinary team brought together to deliver the Visitor Levy for Wales. This is a new tax service, which is supported by a new Visitor Accommodation Register. 

The Developer team sits within the Digital & Technology team, who are responsible for the delivery of all IT-related services within the WRA by providing infrastructure, applications and services. 

You will be responsible for building and supporting software to meet the needs of both internal and external users. This includes front end JavaScript applications and back-end .NET API services.  

You will use agreed specifications to design, code and test programs, using the right standards and tools. This includes building interfaces between systems, or working on more complex user focussed applications as part of the wider team. 

You will use modern standards and provide some coaching and mentoring to junior colleagues. 

The solutions and services you design will have security mitigation controls embedded as a core part of the solution.

Person specification
  • Solve business problems and design systems. Understand the business problem which needs to be solved, and engaging with others across the organisation to design and implement an appropriate solution. 

  • Develop software to meet user needs, this may include designing a new system or making an improvement to an existing application. Support and guidance will be provided by the Lead Developer 

  • Follow best-practice guidelines, help to improve those guidelines to ensure that they are implemented 

  • Write clean, well-tested code 

  • Build secure applications that is subject to regular IT security health checks, making improvements on recommendations and tracking changes 

  • Support and help mentor our digital apprentices as their skills develop 

  • Identify issues in production and resolve them 

  • Control releases using CI/CD tools and provide post-live support 

  • Provide ongoing support for the applications and services you build

  • Escalate problems and issues as they arise to the Lead Developer
