The operations manager or production manager is responsible for supervising the company's production and IT infrastructure. They ensure the implementation and maintenance of applications.

When the operations manager works for a large user company, they are responsible for managing modernization, industrialization, and even outsourcing of production. In the latter case, they participate in selecting the DSC (Digital Services Company) that provides IT management services. In the case of complete production outsourcing, the operations manager's role is to remotely manage external teams. Specifically, they monitor the effectiveness of services and deliverables from subcontractors. At the IT service provider, the operations manager manages the operations platform and the relationship with the user.

Working as an Operations Manager involves carrying out several missions such as: • Implementation of procedures to improve IS performance and ensure data security; • Implementation of backup strategies and security protocols to protect data; • Distribution between internalization and outsourcing; • Definition of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures for IS; • Technology watch; • Analysis of existing infrastructures (procedures, backup plans) and system reliability level; • Collection and analysis of user needs; • Writing technical specifications; • Operations service management (define on-call system, lead a team of operations technicians and analysts, supervise apprentices, interns or service providers...); • Dashboard analysis; • Operations monitoring; • Collection and analysis of malfunctions reported by users; • Proposal of adapted solutions; • Analysis of non-quality causes.

Strong skills are required from future operations managers, namely: • Mastery of operating systems; • Proficiency in Windows and Unix servers; • Good understanding of the company's IS; • Knowledge of backup procedures, security constraints and network monitoring tools; • Proficiency in technical English.
