Junior content designers work on our content design teams, which work with departments across government to develop and maintain some of the most-used content on that helps people find information and complete essential tasks. You’ll be joining a thriving community of content designers in GDS and across government, with lots of opportunities to gain new skills and get advice and support from other content professionals. When you start, you’ll go through a comprehensive induction programme covering ways of working, how to publish on and how to respond to common requests from government and public users.

Job description

As a junior content designer on , you’ll be joining a team of experienced content designers and senior content designers. You will:

  • work with other junior content designers to respond to queries and requests to update content that come in from the public and government

  • create, iterate and manage user-centred content using analytics, user feedback, user research and other sources of information, as well as contributing to content principles, improvements and patterns

  • collaborate effectively with relevant stakeholders, making sure appropriate policy and legal checks within other parts of government happen, and that content is published quickly and efficiently

  • contribute to the GDS content community and the cross-government content community

Candidate profile

We’re interested in people with skills and experience in:

  • content design - you must have experience of creating, iterating and managing user-centred content 

  • using insights and analytics - you should know how to use analytics, user feedback, user research or other sources of information to make decisions about content and how to improve it

  • prioritisation - you must have the ability to co-ordinate a number of projects simultaneously, adapt to changing priorities, and work to tight deadlines under pressure 

  • stakeholder management - you should know how to work with stakeholders and clients to understand their issues while maintaining content quality

  • content publishing tools - you must have experience of using content publishing tools to publish content onlineAs a junior content designer on , you’ll be joining a team of experienced content designers and senior content designers. You will:
