HSBC has reported an attack on their internet banking services this morning, causing online banking customers to be locked out of their accounts.

The bank tweeted about the attack this morning, adding that they had 'successfully defended their systems' but services will be unavailable until further notice. HSBC customers have been unable to access online banking since this morning and there's no indicator of how long it may take but the bank have been working on resolving the issue.

"We are working hard to restore services, and normal service is now being resumed. We apologise for any inconvenience." it added in a later tweet.

The banking giant has already had a troubled start to the year after suffering a previous online outage that lasted for two days at the beginning of January. There were also reports of Natwest customers being unable to access their online bank accounts this month too.

With last year's numerous reports of cyber attacks and data breaches on systems, it's expected that cyber security is to become a primary focus for businesses and organisations this year with demand for

increasing heavily across the UK and globally.
