You will be a Content Designer in the Security, Tech Risk and Resilience team in GDS, where you will create and iterate technical security content. You will support the development of  and other relevant content to help us improve the sharing of security knowledge and expertise across government. The content will help the government continually improve its cyber security capability and help teams meet common standards. You will work closely with experienced cyber security practitioners interviewing people and carrying out research to develop guidance and blog posts. You will be working across multiple cross - government teams, while writing on a range of different subjects, from the highly technical to the more general.

As a content designer you will:

  • create, improve and manage user-centered content using analytics, user feedback, user research and other sources of information

  • contribute to and help develop domains-related guidance to publish on  and 

  • work on a variety of security content for our cross-government services

  • identify the needs of users, write user stories, design content plans, create and publish content

  • identity and collaborate effectively with stakeholders, making sure appropriate policy and legal checks happen within other departments of government

  • develop and apply content and format strategies with support from a senior content designer

  • contribute to the cross-government and GDS content community

  • understand and demonstrate awareness of agile methodology, and can apply an Agile mindset to your work

Candidate profile

Person specification

We’re interested in people with strong interpersonal skills who enjoy working in a delivery focused, agile environment. It is essential that you have:

  • experience creating, improving and publishing user-centred content for UK Public facing cyber projects

  • experience in using content management systems and content production processes to publish content

  • the experience and ability to manage and prioritise different pieces of work and adapt to changing circumstances across several services

  • experience making content accessible for varied users, while applying an awareness of cyber security risks and government best practice 

  • experience designing services in line with the Service Manual, translating user stories into content that meets user needs, proposing suitable design approaches, and using qualitative and quantitative data to turn user insights into outcomes.
