Freelance remote job Backup & Recovery Specialist (Dell technologies)

Our leading blue chip client is currently looking for a Backup & Recovery Specialist with strong knowledge of Dell technologies.

This is a 3 months contract with strong possibility of extension.

Please note that the role is remote but candidates need to be based in the UK.

The role is inside IR35.



Overview

Experienced Backup & Recovery Specialist with advanced knowledge of enterprise data protection, backup, recovery, and retention solutions. Possesses strong technical expertise across Dell Technologies backup portfolios and associated infrastructure technologies, with the ability to engage confidently with customer application, infrastructure, database, and platform teams.



Technical Expertise

Data Protection and Backup Solutions

* Advanced knowledge of backup and recovery concepts, architectures, and best practices.

* Strong hands-on experience with PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), including:

o Microsoft SQL Server backup and recovery

o Oracle database protection

o VMware virtual machine protection

o PostgreSQL backup and recovery

o SAP HANA data protection

o File system backups

o Bare Metal Recovery environments



Storage and Retention Technologies

* Expertise in Dell Data Domain (DD) technologies.

* Experience designing and supporting Long-Term Retention (LTR) solutions.

* Understanding of retention policies, compliance requirements, and recovery objectives.



Legacy and Complementary Data Protection Platforms

* Working knowledge of:

o Dell NetWorker

o Data Protection Advisor (DPA)

* Experience with monitoring, reporting, performance analysis, and operational management of backup environments.



Troubleshooting and Support

* Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across backup, recovery, storage, and infrastructure components.

* Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues involving:

o Backup failures

o Recovery operations

o Network connectivity

o Application integrations

o Database protection workflows

o Storage and retention systems



Infrastructure and Networking Knowledge

* Solid understanding of network fundamentals and enterprise infrastructure.

* Knowledge of network protocols, connectivity requirements, firewall considerations, and data flow related to backup and recovery solutions.

* Ability to assess and troubleshoot network-related impacts on data protection environments.



Customer Engagement Skills

* Demonstrates a strong understanding of how backup, storage, network, virtualization, and database technologies interact within enterprise environments.

* Able to clearly articulate solution architecture, operational workflows, and technical dependencies to customer stakeholders.

* Comfortable engaging with customer:

o Application teams

o Database administrators (DBAs)

o Infrastructure teams

o Virtualization teams

o Storage and backup administrators

* Capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear business and operational outcomes.
