Job Vacancy Technical Delivery Engineer

In this role, you will combine hands-on engineering with a pragmatic consulting mindset to solve real operational challenges. Working closely with clients, users and CGI colleagues, you will take ownership of problems from initial discovery through to working prototypes, MVPs and pilots. You’ll translate complex needs into practical solutions across applications, APIs, data, cloud and AI, balancing pace and experimentation with the security, quality and engineering judgement required in public safety environments.

You will have scope to explore new ideas, test them directly with users and adapt your approach based on evidence. Working within a supportive, agile team, you’ll contribute to workshops, demonstrations and early-stage opportunities while helping successful innovations transition into longer-term delivery.

• Discover & Define – Work directly with clients, operational users and stakeholders to understand challenges, needs and opportunities.

• Prototype & Deliver – Turn ideas and business challenges into working prototypes, MVPs and client pilots.

• Design & Build – Develop solutions across frontend, backend, APIs, data and cloud technologies.

• Cloud & Deploy – Build and deploy solutions primarily using Microsoft Azure and modern cloud services.

• Integrate & Connect – Bring together enterprise systems, APIs, data sources and third-party services.

• Innovate & Automate – Apply AI, including generative AI, LLMs, RAG and automation, where it delivers meaningful value.

• Test & Evolve – Validate ideas with users, gather evidence and rapidly improve solutions.

• Secure & Sustain – Ensure solutions are secure, maintainable and suitable for real-world operational environments.

• Engage & Demonstrate – Contribute technical expertise to client workshops, demonstrations, discussions and emerging opportunities.

• Scale & Share – Capture reusable approaches and support the transition of successful solutions into wider delivery teams.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

You should be an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous problems and turning ideas into working technology. You’ll need broad technical capability, with depth in at least one area, alongside the confidence to engage directly with technical and non-technical clients. You should be curious about emerging technologies, comfortable making informed decisions and able to balance speed, security and quality. You’ll be supported by colleagues while having the autonomy to own outcomes, experiment with new approaches and continuously develop your expertise.

• Strong software engineering experience, with evidence of designing, building and deploying working applications.

• Broad full-stack knowledge, with experience across several areas of the technology stack and depth in at least one.

• Strong proficiency in relevant technologies, such as React or Angular and Python, TypeScript, C#, Java or comparable languages.

• Experience with cloud platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure.

• Good understanding of APIs, systems integration and modern software engineering practices.

• Practical experience or exposure to AI-enabled applications, including generative AI or LLMs.

• Proven client-facing or consulting capability, with confidence communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including translating business and operational challenges into practical technical solutions.

• Proven ability to work with ambiguity, take ownership and make decisions without continuous direction.

• Ability to balance pace, quality, security and pragmatism within complex delivery environments.

• Experience with Azure OpenAI/OpenAI, RAG, AI agents, automation, data engineering, computer vision, SQL or AI-assisted development would be advantageous.

• Experience developing prototypes or MVPs, or working within public sector, public safety or regulated environments, would also be beneficial.
