At CGI, we deliver secure, mission-critical programmes that strengthen the UK’s defence capabilities and support national security. As a Senior Programme Manager within our Space, Defence and Intelligence business, you will shape and lead a major Defence Nuclear Enterprise engagement, turning complex challenges into successful delivery outcomes. From defining programme strategy to building high-performing teams, you will have the autonomy to make important decisions, introduce innovative approaches and build trusted client relationships. Working alongside experienced technical, commercial and delivery specialists, you will benefit from a collaborative environment where your expertise is valued, your leadership makes a tangible difference and your career can grow alongside the programmes you deliver.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance.

Please note: This particular opportunity requires current UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and five days per week on-site in Corsham, including attendance at secure client locations.

Candidate profile

In this role, you will take ownership of a complex, high-profile Defence Nuclear Enterprise programme, leading its development from initial engagement shaping and bid activity through mobilisation, transition and delivery. You will work directly with senior client stakeholders and collaborate with CGI’s account, technical and commercial teams to establish a robust delivery approach, align strategic priorities and achieve successful programme outcomes.

You will have the freedom to shape effective delivery models, introduce improvements and build a high-performing multidisciplinary team. Supported by experienced colleagues across CGI, you will oversee programme governance, financial performance, stakeholder relationships and operational risks, creating an environment where teams can innovate, develop their capabilities and deliver lasting value for our clients.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead & Deliver: Take accountability for end-to-end programme delivery, ensuring client expectations, contractual commitments and business outcomes are achieved.

  • Shape & Strategise: Support bids and engagement shaping, defining delivery models, programme structures, resource requirements and mobilisation plans.

  • Mobilise & Transition: Lead programme mobilisation, onboarding and transition activities, ensuring operational readiness and continuity of delivery.

  • Govern & Optimise: Establish effective programme governance, reporting, escalation processes and integrated delivery plans.

  • Manage & Control: Oversee programme budgets, financial forecasting, resource planning, risks, dependencies and change management.

  • Engage & Influence: Build trusted relationships with senior defence stakeholders, suppliers and delivery partners, aligning priorities across multiple organisations.

  • Collaborate & Innovate: Work alongside architects, engineering specialists and delivery teams to translate complex technical requirements into practical solutions.

  • Lead & Develop: Build, coach and support multidisciplinary teams, promoting accountability, knowledge sharing, professional development and succession planning.

  • Improve & Grow: Identify opportunities to enhance delivery performance, strengthen client relationships and create additional value through CGI's capabilities.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

You will be an accomplished Programme Manager or Engagement Manager with significant experience leading complex technology programmes in defence, nuclear or other highly secure environments. Essential experience and qualifications:

  • Security Clearance: You must currently hold UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

  • Programme Leadership: Extensive experience delivering complex technology, digital, software or mission-critical programmes.

  • Defence Nuclear Expertise: Experience working within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise or a closely related defence nuclear environment.

  • Secure Environments: Proven experience delivering programmes within Defence, National Security, Intelligence or similarly secure sectors.

  • Mobilisation & Transition: Demonstrable success leading programme mobilisation, service transition and operational readiness activities.

  • Commercial & Financial Management: Strong proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, resource management and programme financial controls.

  • Stakeholder & Client Management: Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, manage complex client relationships and collaborate with delivery partners.

  • Governance & Risk Management: Extensive experience managing programme governance, integrated planning, risks, issues, dependencies and change.

  • People Leadership: Strong experience building, coaching and developing multidisciplinary teams, including recruitment, knowledge transfer and capability development.

  • Delivery Methodologies: Experience working across Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery approaches.

  • Experience delivering complex software, engineering or mission-critical systems within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise.

  • Knowledge of maritime defence, command and control, scientific or engineering environments.

  • Experience managing major service transitions, supplier transitions or knowledge retention programmes.
