The thread in the copywriting section is months old. I still haven't received payment....so my advice would be the same, not to deal with him.

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd give you all the heads up on a guy called Jamie Kirk who uses this forum quite a lot to find people to work with him under the name of cre8tivelive.

I done a couple of logos for him 4 months ago and I've been promised payment umpteen times and all I get from him is ***

Thanks
Paul

P.S. If theres any way we could make this thread a sticky one that would be great!

Look at past d&ad briefs, always a good standard to work to and potential employers should recognise the brief.

Also personal illustrations and photography can show your creativity.

Hi, Ive just recently graduated, but our lecturers gave us a lot of advice on pricing for freelance.

For the per page rate, I would work out how long it would take you to do the job, work out the amount with your hourly rate, then divide it by 60 for the number of pages. Also with 10 years experience, I htink you could demand a higher hourly rate.

With the stock photography, it depends on the print run i.e it'll cost more for a 50,000 run that a 5000. We were always told to mark up the prices by 15% for ourselves, don't know if that just being greedy though!

Hi,

I'm in the same boat up here mate.

The advice I've been given is to forget about a mass mailing of the same letter/email to agencies, and to pick out ones who's work I admire.

Pinpoint places whos work would be complimented best by your strengths or style, and try and engage them with something more than just a letter. Try and promote yourself basically. Don't push for a job, just ask for some advice on your portfolio or if you could possibly do a placement.

However I know a couple of people who have secured placements with a confident phone call or two.

Good Luck

Thanks very much, glad you like my work.

I know I have a lot more to learn, and my primary goal is to get into a good, creative agency to continue my learning, with freelance being on the side.

Yeah I know I was thinking the same to be honest, I wouldn't be referring potential employers to the site right enough.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi, new to the site, seems like it could be handy for some advice and maybe the odd job!

Just graduated from Cardonald College Glasgow with an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design, to see some of my work go to firstforgraphics.co.uk.

Im available to do work such as branding, brochure/mag design poster/flyer design and illustration at competitive rates, feel free to get in touch.

Would be happy to send more examples of work.
