I've been producing artwork for magazine ads for a client recently, exported from Indesign CS4. No problems at all. Except the latest one. It went off to a magazine in America and it printed out with half the headline missing and some letters of the text missing. I checked attachment in the email I sent to the States, the PDF I sent printed out fine for me here. ALSO and this is weird, they do an online version of the mag with a version of the same PDF in the mag. That's fine. So presumably it can't be a font thing. But fonts shouldn't be a problem in a PDF anyway should they?
Has anyone else had problems like this before? Has the file got corrupted somewhere. OR what? The mag team are looking into it but are equally mystified. Anyone got any advice to stop this happening again?
Yep the company I was owed over £3K has gone out of business. And as it was a limited company and has no assets my solicitor suggest it would be very difficult to get my money back.
I'm pretty sure they've gone out of business. No one's answering the phone or mobiles. A key account exec has changed jobs and won't say anything the boss, guess what? is always on answerphone!

I've got a GREAT client. We get on well, I have had stacks of work from them over the past year, they like what I do. I would say at the moment they are providing me with 80% of my income. One small problem. They are taking longer and longer to pay me. I know everyone has cash flow problems at the moment but it's getting to the stage where I'm 'ransoming' the latest peice of work until my client drip feeds some more money into my account. Should I risk losing them and ask for all outstanding money, or just stick with it and hope they aren't going out of business?
I should be so lucky. Despite networking my little heart out I'm finding it nigh on impossible get a large enough client base to stay afloat. Loads of compliments but everyone's saying they're cutting back on freelancers. You can't live on praise alone.
So any of you guys want to sub contract some work my way, I'm not too proud!!!

I think it's mostly about thinking or doing things or solving problems a little differently. 'Creatives' have no ownership of creativity, you could pluck a chicken in a creative way if you thought about it. Alexander the Great won wars with creative strategy. I've heard account handlers, housewives and bankers excusing themselves for not being able to come up with ideas, as they weren't 'creative'. Some of us creative types might have have some lateral ways of thinking but the 4 odd years at art school and the umpteenth on the job have refined that talent a heck of a lot.
That's not to say some people don't have raw talent and I dare say most creative people have also been labeled as eccentric, oddballs loners, peculiar or just plain stark raving bonkers. And I definititely have been called a few of those! So its a mixture of innate ability and your reaction to your environment. Nature AND nurture.
