Khepri, post: 2523 a écrit : Trouble is, I imagine the kind of companies that are likely to source through bid sites are literally going for the cheapest option with little thought for the reputation of the bidder. Even if you built up a rapport with such companies, once they've paid you peanuts for your early work, they won't eagerly up the ante later. Charge them more, they'll just go back to the bid sites and find some Indians...

Either way, it doesn't sound like any kind of a living wage is much of a likelihood.
Very true I am off with my portfolio around local buisness this week

Well it seems all the jobs on bids sites go to the folks from India. I cant really compete with their bids. They may bid $30 for doing a logo which works out about £15 for me... thats peanuts....

Pretty much lost hope with bid sites.... can seem to win any now

I am stuck with bid sites, I have submitted hundreds of bids and apart from one or two when I first joined I am getting NO work at all. I have people contact me all the time sounding interested etc then they choose someone else. Some even more expensive than me, it makes no sense when I know they liked my work.

Anyone have ANY tips at all as I am all out of ideas.. :indifferent

Very interesting to read this from someone who is on the other side of the fence (employed) and HOPING to get into freelancing. I have had a company set up for some time when someone scared me about taxes when I was doing small jobs for people. We do our tax return on line and seems easy enough. I WISH I needed an accountant as I only know a few people around here who I know will be customers. Just need to find more now..maybe time for some flyers etc....

MickeyFinn, post: 889 a écrit : Hiya,

Sorry for not replying sooner but tied up with work etc. Shame no-one else has replied - come on people lend a hand 😃

I personally tend not to use them as a lot of the work tends to go abroad in my experience although I do know people who have succeeded in winning work from them.

I guess like all freelancing work, places like this are great while you build up a client list, anywhere that you can get fresh meat is a bonus! Depends how long it takes you to get a client and how much that client is worth compared to time involved and therefore cost, same as any marketing effort really.

Which bid sites are you looking at joining?

Thanks for the reply 😃

I have joined 'ifreelance' seems an easy site to use and well laid out but so far failed on 4 bids.... but loads more to try 🙁 I only have a couple of local contacts (from previous job) so I NEED more clients....
