As a Director in the Digital Markets Unit, you will join the leadership team of the Digital Markets Unit (DMU) implementing the new regime. You will lead across all aspects of the new regime: digital regulation, compliance and enforcement for firms designated with Strategic Market Status. 

These are vital leadership roles in continuing to build both the core DMU team and the wider digital markets function across the CMA, working alongside economists, lawyers, data scientists, technologists and behavioural scientists. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of digital markets and ensure they operate fairly and efficiently.

About you

We are looking for candidates with a proven track record in senior policy roles with extensive project delivery experience and an understanding of business, consumer and competition issues in digital markets.. You should be an inclusive leader with experience in managing and inspiring multi-disciplinary teams. Your ability to navigate times of uncertainty and change, and to promote a culture of respect, equality, diversity, and inclusion, will be vital. Strong strategic thinking and the ability to manage risks while maintaining awareness of the broader political and economic context are essential. You should also have significant experience in building strategic relationships with stakeholders and influencing the delivery of priorities.

Candidate profile

An initial sift based may be held on the two criteria points listed as 'Lead Criteria', if a large number of applications are received.

  • A proven track record of working in senior policy roles with extensive project delivery experience and an understanding of business, consumer and competition issues in digital markets (lead criteria).

  • Experience of providing strong, inclusive leadership to lead, develop and inspire multi-disciplinary teams through times of uncertainty and change, offering a compelling vision behind which a team can unite and to promote a culture of respect, equality, diversity and inclusion (lead criteria).

  • Significant experience building and engaging a network of strategic relationships with businesses and consumers and successfully using these connections to communicate and influence the delivery of priorities, particularly including government(s).

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, and decision-making, proactively managing risks including the ability to deliver complex work while maintaining an awareness of the broader political, economic and international context.
