Mechanical Design Engineer (HVAC Bias) - Contract Position Manchester/Watford We are seeking a proactive and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong HVAC background to join our dynamic team in the Food & Beverage and Pharmaceuticals sectors. This is a contract role based in either our Manchester or Watford offices, offering a competitive hourly rate and an immediate start. Role Details: Location: Manchester or Watford (5 days on-site) Duration: 3-month contract, with potential for extension Type: Outside IR35 Start: ASAP Pay Rate: £40-50 per hour Key Responsibilities: Leverage expertise in HVAC systems to design effective mechanical solutions for projects within the food and beverage and pharmaceutical sectors. Demonstrate initiative by identifying project needs and proposing design solutions autonomously. Maintain proactive communication with project teams to ensure alignment and efficiency. The engineering team are at the forefront of the business in defining initial concepts with our customers and then using standard tools and processes in developing those concepts into usable products and bespoke engineered solutions. Purpose of Role: To be responsible for all the engineering production activities to meet the needs of production and product specifications. Providing information and feedback to the Engineering and Production Departments and also to provide technical and costing support for production tooling and jigs. Support new product development. Main duties: Operate machinery and equipment following safe practices for machining, Milling, Turning, sawing, punching, and drilling and assembly operations. Competent use of portable power tools, i.e. drill, grinder, jigsaw etc. Able to understand and read technical drawings for part manufacture. Checking of machine setup to verify correct programs used by operators, checking of tolerances and machine functions. Keeping a safe and tidy work area at all times. In process checks will be required by the operator to maintain all required tolerances and quality. Ensure safe working practices are followed for all procedures and operations. Undertake project work to drive continual improvement through the business Undertake other reasonable tasks as requested by the Technical & Design Manager Provide technical & design engineering support to production Calculate direct cost of manufactured jigs and tools for production Create manufacturing drawings for components (training given) Maintain records of tool registers & drawing registers New tool & jig development Support production with new and existing product manufacturing. Work closely with production engineering, quality & production to maximise efficiency.
