Job Vacancy Cloud Operations Engineer

About the role

The Cloud Operations Engineer is a mid-level role, reporting to the CloudOps Manager and is responsible for the on-going deployment, management and maintenance of development and production environments within Azure public cloud infrastructure across both our corporate and customer estates.

Working within the CloudOps team, alongside colleagues from Enterprise Architecture, Compliance, Information Security, Customer IT and various Product teams, the Cloud Operations Engineer drives quality and repeatability into their work through a mixture of DevOps methodologies and Site Reliability Engineering.

You'll create consistent, automated environments across all tiers, proactively test and tune all aspects of the infrastructure, streamline CI/CD processes, monitor and respond to system alerts and continually work to optimise the performance, security, reliability and cost management elements of our systems.

Key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring infrastructure and environments, taking steps to improve stability, reliability and performance whilst always remaining cost
• conscious.
• Contributing towards building an organisation
• wide Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps culture, by sharing principles, approaches, best practices, documentation and code with colleagues.
• Maintaining existing and creating new IaC templates and deploying new infrastructure and environments in accordance with Architecture, Compliance, Operational and Security requirements.
• Troubleshooting complicated, cross
• platform issues involving Network, IaaS, PaaS, Operating System, Application, Database and other components, taking ownership through to resolution.
• Documenting your knowledge of environments and individual systems as you acquire it over time, creating runbooks and ensuring critical system information is readily available to colleagues across the business.
• Seeking opportunities to apply automation to any tasks performed manually, following through to implementation.
• Keeping up
• to date with security best
• practice and proactively identifying, diagnosing and solving complex security issues.

Skills & experience

To be successful you'll have:

• Previous experience (2 years minimum) working with large scale SaaS (or Enterprise equivalent) infrastructure and services within Azure.
• Demonstrable experience utilising modern DevOps/CloudOps practices and processes to build and operate the Zellis cloud platform with prevention, resilience and reliability as core principles.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure monitoring and SRE principles around observability.
• Experience of working within controlled regulatory frameworks, such as SOC, ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials.
• An automate everything mindset using IaC, source control and pipelines wherever possible.
• A self
• starter mindset with strong planning and organisational skills, able to balance business priorities whilst delivering with quality.
• Clear and concise communication skills, to technical and non
• technical audiences.

You'll be a technologist at heart, with a passion for learning and an eagerness to share knowledge with others.

You'll be able to demonstrate technical skills in most of the following areas (we don't expect you to know it all!):

• Infrastructure as a Service features, including Virtual Machines (Linux, and Windows).
• Platform as a Service features, including: Key Vault, Storage, Databases (SQL, and Postgres); App Service Plans and Web / API / Function Apps; Kubernetes and Container Registry; PowerBI.
• Logging, Monitoring and Alerting, including: Monitor, Alerts, Dashboards, Sentinel; Diagnostics Settings, Log Analytics, KQL.

• party Integrations, including Confluent Kafka, Skytap.
• Infrastructure as Code, including PowerShell scripting, Azure CLI.
• Azure DevOps, including Repos, Pipelines.
